Apply Engineering Education Principles to the Solution of Instructional or Curricular Problems
Definition
This competency can be defined as administering the techniques and methods learned through the engineering education program to the current instructional problems that we are aware of. This competency expects explicit practices of the principles we are taught, whether it is through design, development, or evaluation. This is relevant to my background and career because the experiences that my peers and I faced are what made me aware of one of the issues within engineering instruction. Gaining the skills I need and implementing them is me becoming the change that I want to see for my communities.

Future Work
In the Fall 2021 semester, I plan to complete the content, assessment, and pedagogy course, a course that focuses specifically on methods to apply instructional practices to resolve problems in the curriculum. I believe we are expected to develop our own curriculum in this course as well, so I will be explicitly introduced to using principles learned in this program to solve educational issues. This curriculum will potentially be the artifact I use to display this competency.
Given that my research interests include empathy within the engineering pedagogy, I will also attempt to develop or participate on projects related to ethics and empathy in curricula with my advisor and research group.
