Think Critically and Reflectively
Definition
Within the context of engineering education, thinking critically and reflectively means to analyze the current structure of the engineering pedagogy and evaluate them based on the concepts and implementations of education as a whole and your vision of educational practice. This includes providing in-depth critiques of widely accepted opinions and thinking about what changes you would make to produce an improved structure. I believe this competency will assist with developing my academic vision as a department head or dean of an engineering school. This will allow me to make proper adjustments to curriculum within the school through the individuals that I am working with.
Prior/Current Work
In reflecting on what I learned in ENE 505, I have taken initial steps to developing my vision of education practice.
Future Work
As I continue to prepare for and ultimately take my readiness assessment, I believe that I will be able to accomplish this competency. Within the exam, I will be required to evaluate topics related to engineering education, which should involve current structures. I also want to make progress in establishing a teaching statement and what it means to be a teacher. I would be best able to accomplish this after my first teaching experience, which I hope to obtain in the fall semester of 2022. The feedback and experiences that I'll obtain while teaching should provide me with sufficient input on the area. Afterwards, once I take a course on educational policy, I will be equipped with the information I need to create this document.
